Just occurred to me while reading this item, there should be a market in the vertical strip. When the banker sells the deal, it should also try to sell a combo note that's just the vertical. Yes, it's quirky and equivalent to owning a piece of untranched portfolio and also problematic in terms of credit rating. But still it would be good for price discovery.
